We are seeking a Staff DevOps Engineer to join our talented team. This position is located in Redondo Beach, CA, and offers domestic and international travel opportunities.
The Ground Solutions and Mission Support (GSMS) Software (SW) Integrated Project Team (IPT) is a large, restricted group executing across both Development and Operations and Maintenance (O&M) tasks. The software Engineering IPT focuses on the development and sustainment of several mission operational software product lines, as well as the development of new capabilities as coordinated with their restricted SCI Customer.
The Deputy Subproject Manager (SPM) role will focus on tools and DevOps. You will provide technical leadership and operational oversight within a fast-paced engineering environment. This role supports the Subproject Manager by driving execution across critical toolchains and automation platforms that enable modern software development and release practices. You will work closely with multidisciplinary teams to ensure robust, compliant, and efficient DevOps capabilities.
Key Responsibilities:
• Serve as the technical lead for DevOps tools within the project.
• Act as the Deputy to the SPM, ensuring alignment between technical implementation and project objectives.
• Drive tool adoption, configuration, integration, and optimization across development and operations environments.
• Collaborate closely with software development, IT, cybersecurity, and integration teams to ensure DevOps pipelines meet performance, security, and compliance goals.
• Lead resolution of complex tool-related issues, engaging stakeholders across the engineering lifecycle.
• Maintain and manage software baselines and version control practices using industry-standard tools.
• Provide mentorship and guidance to team members in tooling strategy and DevOps maturity.
• Participate in program reviews, audits, and technical assessments.
Basic Qualifications:
• 12 Years with Bachelors in Science; 10 Years with Masters; 7 Years with PhD.
• Active Single Source Background Investigation (SSBI) with a periodic review done within the last 6 years and the ability to obtain SCI access prior to the start date
• Experience with DevOps pipelines, CI/CD tools (e.g., Bitbucket, Bamboo, Nexus, SonarQube, Ansible, etc.).
• Must have domain knowledge on GSMS legacy baselines
• Proficiency in configuration management tools (e.g., Git, ClearCase, Jira) and practices.
• Strong understanding of Agile or SAFe development methodologies.
• Demonstrated experience leading cross-functional technical efforts.
• Familiarity with system security practices and continuous integration in secure environments.
Preferred Qualifications:
• Active SCI security clearance.
• Experience with enterprise-scale CM systems and infrastructure-as-code (IAC).
• Expertise in scripting and automation (e.g., Python, Bash, Perl, Ansible).
• Excellent communication, presentation, and stakeholder engagement skills.
• Prior experience in a Deputy or Technical Lead role on a large-scale defense or aerospace program.
• Familiarity with legacy tool support and migration planning
• Strong documentation skills, especially related to CM planning, tool configuration, and audit support.
• Prior experience in a Deputy or Technical Lead role on a defense, aerospace, or highly regulated program.
• Understanding of hardware/software baselines and system release methodologies.
Salary Range: $171,000.00 - $256,400.00The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives.
