As a Data Scientist in Financial Planning & Analysis, you will work with comprehensive, cross-functional data sets and influence the long-term evolution of our department’s analytics capabilities. You will implement learnings directly into forecasting models for our most critical enterprise KPIs and increase the broader understanding of the strategic and tactical variables essential to achieving our goals.


Responsibilities and Qualifications

You should have excellent technical, business, and communication skills, and be able to translate key business questions into data acquisition processes, data sets, statistical models, and analyses that answer those questions. You will conduct regular, deep, topical analyses of strategic and tactical questions, focusing on improving forecast accuracy and business understanding by evaluating the impact of our business strategies on enterprise KPIs.

This versatile role leverages an understanding of statistical modeling, combined with technical aptitude and business acumen, helping enable REI to deliver outstanding results.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement automated forecasting models for our critical enterprise KPIs using statistical and machine learning methods.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to gather and integrate data inputs for forecasting models.
  • Evaluate the impact of various business strategies on key performance indicators (KPIs) and provide actionable insights.
  • Continuously improve forecasting accuracy by testing and refining models.
  • Communicate complex statistical concepts and results to non-technical stakeholders in a clear and concise manner.
  • Document methodologies, processes, and results for transparency and reproducibility.
  • Stay updated with the latest advancements in statistical modeling, machine learning, and data science.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Statistics, Mathematics, Economics, Data Science, or a related field + 5 years of experience in statistical analysis, data science, or a related field.
  • Or a Masters degree in Data Science with +2 years of experience.
  • Ability to work with large datasets leveraging SQL and perform data cleaning, transformation, and analysis.
  • Proficiency in statistical programming languages such as R or Python.
  • Experience with machine learning libraries and frameworks, including but not limited to time series forecasting, regression analysis, classification, clustering, and ensemble methods.
  • Strong analytical skills and experience in time series forecasting.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Experience in the retail industry or a similar fast-paced environment.
  • Familiarity with integrated business planning processes.
  • Knowledge of data visualization tools (e.g., Tableau, Power BI).
  • Experience with cloud computing platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure, GCP).
