SUMMARY: The Process Operator must follow all plant safety, Good Manufacturing Practices and Food Safety rules and regulations. Documentation and paperwork procedures must be followed as well as verbal and / or written instructions and guidelines according to the job requirements. This is a hands-on skilled bulk process operator position working in a food manufacturing (vinegar production) plant. The Process Operator will be responsible for mixing raw ingredients, following formulas, schedules, fermentation schedules, monitoring equipment as well as physically checking on the fermentation process and adding ingredients as required. Knowledge or the ability to understand the vinegar fermentation process is critical. Additional duties are outlined below:

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned:

  • Prioritize work for bulk processing area according to production schedule and sales forecast
  • Ensure adherence to applicable quality and manufacturing standards
  • Troubleshoot product quality problems and other quality issues in the production process
  • Write certificate of analysis documentation for bulk shipments
  • Oversee maintenance of a safe and clean work environment
  • Complete required production reports on a regular basis
  • Responsible for Food Quality, Safety and Legality
  • Review work orders from supervisor and retrieve necessary totes or drums and final product
  • Add water or other ingredients as needed. Blend and filter product as directed.
  • Hook up hoses and holding tanks
  • Hand fill drums or totes as needed
  • Weigh, label, and band pallets. Load final product on shuttle truck.
  • Take product sample to quality laboratory for product certification. Conduct quality tests for grain, color, and turbidity.
  • Complete required production reports and any other documentation specified
  • Constant care is necessary to prevent injury to others
  • Proper use of forklift
  • Follow safety rules and keep work area in a clean and orderly condition

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, AND QUALIFICATIONS (includes physical attributes):

  • High School diploma or G.E.D. preferred
  • Must be well organized, results oriented, & have effective problem-solving ability
  • Ability to work respectfully and efficiently with others
  • Flexible to work overtime and different shifts and at times with short notice
  • Must be computer literate – Microsoft Office Programs & AS 400 is desirable
  • Must possess strong leadership & team building skills
  • Must possess the ability to communicate verbally and in writing effectively
  • Must be a self-starter and work without supervision
  • Good organizational skills
  • Show good judgment and sound reasoning skills
  • Must be able to monitor packaging supplies and communicate restocking need
  • Moderate physical effort required to handle hoses; frequent lifting or moving of average weight material, with occasional heavy weights up to 70lbs.
  • Ability to work in high temperatures, working at heights up to 6’, and exposure to strong smell
