Job Description
Position: Lead UX Designer
Freelance: 40-hours a week through June 2026, highly likely for extensions (intention is for this to be a multi-year long term)
Project: Supporting the Deepwater portfolio
**This company has an in-office culture, so please expect to be onsite at least 3 days a week; some weeks may be 4 or even 5 days onsite**
The Upstream division of a global O&G company makes multi-million dollar decisions every day to locate and produce energy products that will power and enable communities around the world. Forming and communicating these decisions requires a team of the most talented scientists, engineers, and operators to collect and analyze large, highly-technical data.
These super-brains are frequently saddled with manual, inefficient tools and processes, so the UX team is tasked with designing, creating, revising and optimizing these tools to be more efficient and user-focused for the teams using them.
While there is a Lead UX role open, there are also junior to mid UX designer roles also available.
What they are looking for:
- Strong UX/Interaction design background
- Experience designing in scientific domains, web applications, websites, and applications and dealing with large amounts of data or complex workflows
- Some research capabilities (they do have dedicated researchers but may need support with interviewing and basic usability testing)
- Wireframes and prototypes (sketches and mid fidelity a must, high fidelity is a plus) - client wants to see sketches in portfolios
- Experience with site maps and user flows
- Proficient in UX design tools (Axure and Adobe XD are the tools they currently use but open to other tools such as Sketch, Figma, etc.)
- Visual skills are important but not a primary emphasis (no need to do a lot of creating, as you will be able to pull from design system)
- Service design, IA, and strategy skills are helpful
- Agile team experience is a huge plus
- Enterprise experience would be ideal
- Oil and gas experience is a nice to have
- Experience creating journey maps and personas would be a plus (may need to do some of that for smaller projects)
In this position, you may have access to client or customer systems, confidential and/or proprietary information or data. This position is onsite and requires you to work closely with other individuals in a collaborative team environment.
