$31.691 - $39.614 - $47.537The stated pay scale reflects the range that Sharp reasonably expects to pay for this position. The actual pay rate and pay grade for this position will be dependent on a variety of factors, including an applicant's years of experience, unique skills and abilities, education, alignment with similar internal candidates, marketplace factors, other requirements for the position, and employer business practices.
What You Will Do
Under the direction of Department Manager, performs those duties directly involved in maintaining a trauma related data collection system. Meets/exceeds standards as set by the American College of Surgeons (ACS) and the San Diego County Emergency Medical Services (SDC EMS): Abstracting and Coding Procedures for Hospitals.
Required Qualifications
- After the date of hire: completes the required courses within one year of hire - AAAM Course, ICD10 Course, and Trauma Registrar Course.The department will track and maintain the completion of these courses.
Preferred Qualifications
- Completion of training course for Trauma Registrar preferred
- Certified Specialist in Trauma Registers (CSTR) - American Trauma Society preferred
- Medical Records coding, data entry, trauma registry experience preferred.
Essential Functions
- Abstract accuracy
Analyzes each medical record and completes all data fields of patient abstract in accordance with current ACS and SDC EMS requirements.
Meets the weekly abstract goals as set semi-annually.
Reviews 100% of completed abstracts for accurate reporting of the data items collected by SDC EMS.
Discrepancy reports completed within time limits. - Billing compliance
Identifies all trauma patients for appropriate billing.
Enters all trauma patient charges within three (3) days of admission. - Data collection
Conducts visual and/or comparative review of resuscitation flow sheets, Kardex, lab and x-ray reports and transcription against current list of reportable criteria published by SDC EMS and ACS for data finding, concurrent abstracting and follow up.
Accurately enters data into the database as determined by the type of information obtained. - Data collection and reporting
Proficient in use of software application used for data collection and reporting.
Provides reports/follow up data to various customers (Medical Staff, Administration, reporting agencies, other sources) as requested within time frames.
Maintains data base as required by ACS.
Supports manager in completion of monthly and annual reports and committee preparation as necessary.
Confidentiality of records/data maintained per procedure.
Assists with preparation for regulatory surveys. - Reports
Coordinates with Administration daily to have trauma patient accommodation codes entered correctly in IDX system.
Records trauma patient accommodation code change requests into trauma registry database for tracking.
Provides analysis of billing and accommodation code information.
