Job Description
The Specialist Environmental, Health and Safety 1 is responsible for providing all locations within assigned area with specialized support and oversight in the areas of Occupational Safety and Health Administration, Department of Transportation, Environmental Protection Agency. KORE, and ISO compliance, workplace and fleet safety, and environmental program management.
What your day will look like:
- Provides guidance to assigned locations on operating safely under OSHA, DOT, EPA, ISO, and KORE guidelines as well as CCBCU policies and procedures
- Conducts regular OSHA, DOT, and EPA regulatory audits, workplace and fleet safety reviews, as well as environmental program reviews for assigned locations, also assisting in preparation for third party audits.
- Utilizes data from third party audits to develop action plans and implementation to remediate audit findings
- Prepares and delivers reports to location leadership as well as division and corporate office personnel to escalate and/or remedy identified issues
- Analyzes loss experience and related data to work with leadership on location specific plans to reduce workplace accidents, incidents, and injuries
- Collaborates with local leadership to introduce, communicate, and ensure adherence to Company Risk Management/EHS policies and procedures. Also assists in setting annual goals for regulatory and workplace safety, and to develop safety training using data collected from accident, incident, and injury data.
- Monitors, collects, and manages all requisite documentation from regulatory and company-based safety training for both associates and Supervisors/Management
- Ensures that emergency preparedness and evacuation drills are held regularly and that all personnel in each assigned location understands and follows the emergency preparedness response plans and requirements
- Leads workplace safety, regulatory compliance, and environmental program calls with key Operations Management to communicate new Risk Management/EHS programs and/or any regulatory changes and best practices
- Participates in monthly safety committee meetings for all assigned locations and provides guidance to ensure efficacy
- Assists local leadership with determining the need for outside contractors/consultants to provide safety, security, or environmental services and participates in the selection process for the hiring of said outside contractors/consultants
- Collaborates with all levels within the EHS department and location key stakeholders to identify emerging issues and develop performance improvement plans as needed; to ensure high levels of workplace and fleet safety, environmental program success, and regulatory compliance
- Monitors and investigates all assigned location incidents and accidents to ensure all proper steps and documentation have been handled by involved parties
- Performs appropriate duties as assigned by management
What you need to succeed:
- Minimum age 18 years old
- Valid driver’s license required and obligation to maintain compliance with UNITED fleet policy
- Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) as required by position and compliance with UNITED safety policies
- Regular and prompt attendance is an essential function of the job
- Ability to read, write and speak English
- Ability to maintain a neat professional appearance within Company guidelines
- Ability to maintain safety and security of Company assets
- Ability to utilize all Company provided resources and technology
- Ability to demonstrate independence, analytical skills, and strategic thinking
- Effective communication skills
- Willingness to work weekends, holidays, or flexible schedule as required
- Associate degree (A. A.) or equivalent from two-year College or technical school; or 12 months to 3-year related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience
- OSHA 511 highly preferred and ability to acquire within one year of employment
- Smith System or PACE driver trainer certification preferred
- Knowledge of distribution in Environment Healthy Safety best practices preferred.
- Experience monitoring driver hour's of service preferred
- Must be able to effectively manage multiple priorities and plans across multiple locations
- Ability to travel up to 50%
- Frequent sitting, standing, walking, and frequent exposure to noise
- Ability to demonstrate strong problem-solving, organization, teamwork, ethical and customer service skills
