About the Role:
The Howard Hughes Medical Institute (HHMI) advances the discovery and sharing of scientific knowledge to benefit us all. As a biomedical research organization and philanthropy, HHMI supports a vibrant community of academic researchers, educators, students, and professionals. Together, we're unlocking the fundamentals of biology and building an open, inclusive future for science.
The Pagliarini Lab located at the Washington University in St. Louis is seeking a talented and motivated member to join the team as a Research Specialist II. In particular, they seek an experienced scientist with interest in establishing small molecule screening and/or genetic assay systems for exploring new mitochondrial biology and therapeutics. The Lab of Dr. Dave Pagliarini consists of an interdisciplinary team of scientists driven to understand the biochemical underpinnings of mitochondrial dysfunction in human diseases. Together, they integrate large-scale methodologies with traditional biochemistry to investigate the modulation, adaptation, and basic metabolic function of mitochondria. More information about the lab and their work can be found by visiting https://pagliarinilab.org/.
What We Provide:
A competitive compensation package with comprehensive health and welfare benefits.
Opportunity to work with a large team of experts in mitochondrial biology and biochemistry to build assay systems as a basis for exploring potential therapeutics and/or tools.
Being part of a diverse and vibrant community. The Pagliarini Lab consists of a diverse group of scientists with backgrounds including organic chemistry, mechanistic biochemistry, cell & molecular biology, genetics, neuroscience, medicine & physiology, mass spectrometry, and computational biology.
What You'll Do:
Design and perform high-level experiments, master literature, and engage with lab team members to learn the background of projects.
Prepare reports, meet with others at Washington University to access resources, write manuscripts or grant applications.
Operate and help maintain common lab equipment.
Train others in complex technical protocols.
Conduct literature reviews to determine suitable research methods.
What You Bring:
PhD degree in biochemistry, chemical biology, molecular biology, cell biology; or an equivalent combination of education and related work experience.
Experience as a Postdoctoral Fellow is preferable but not required.
Experience in small molecule screens and cellular reporter assay/design is preferable.
Familiarity with yeast and mammalian cell systems is preferable.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
