Job Summary

Annotators will use a web-based tool to label news articles and social media posts based on the type of framing that is being used. These annotations will be used to help evaluate AI models' abilities to detect and produce content that frames current events in various ways.

Responsibilities*

  • Attend two live online training sessions to learn about the annotation task and framework
  • Use an online interface to label text within news articles and social media posts based on the type of framing used (e.g., economic, political, etc.)
  • Communicate regularly with graduate student research assistants (GSRAs) and professors managing the project
  • Provide feedback on the annotation experience when requested

Required Qualifications*

  • Current of University of Michigan undergraduate student in good academic standing or recently graduated from a UM undergraduate program and not currently enrolled in a graduate program
  • Ability to work independently for a remote position using an online data annotation platform (requires access to computer with internet connection)
  • Ability to attend online trainings via Zoom
  • Excellent organization and written communication skills

Desired Qualifications*

  • Background in political science, psychology, environmental science, communication, linguistics, journalism and/or artificial intelligence
  • Regular reader of news articles about topics such as climate change, medicine, and immigration
  • Familiarity with a variety of social media platforms
  • Experience with data annotation for AI model training
  • Highly motivated to contribute to research seeking to improve information literacy
