Job Summary

Are you interested in gaining hands-on experience in public health research?  We are hiring two research assistants (undergraduate students) to support our project.  This project collects and analyzes community health data to inform GCHD's future strategies.

The University of Michigan-Flint is seeking a Research Assistant I (Temporary).  This research is part of the Genesee County Health Department strategic planning.

This position is from February 2025 through May 2025 for approximately 2.5 hours per week, a total of 30 hours for the semester. Your work schedule will be determined after hire to account for your class/work schedule.

Responsibilities*

  • Focus group discussions - assist with moderate ten focus group discussions (2 hours each session)
  • Note taking - take detailed notes during the focus group discussions
  • Transcription - assist with transcription of focus group discussions (approximately 10 hours)
  • Data analysis - students will assist with data analysis (approximately 10 hours)

Required Qualifications*

  • Available at least 2.5 hours per week
  • Physical presence in Flint, Michigan, is required for training sessions and in-person data collection activities
  • Commitment to completing the assigned tasks
  • Strong organizational and communication skills
  • Proficiency in basic data entry and willingness to learn research tools (training provided)
  • One assistant, fluent in Arabic, will support focus groups with Arabic-speaking participants
  • One assistant, fluent in Spanish, will support focus groups with Spanish-speaking participants
  • Undergraduate student in good standing with the University of Michigan-Flint 

Desired Qualifications*

  • Experience with public health, qualitative research, or survey administration is a plus

Modes of Work

Hybrid

The work requirements allow both onsite and offsite work and an employee has an expected recurring onsite presence.  On occasion, the employee may be required and must be available to work onsite more frequently if necessitated by unit leadership or their designee and/or the job requirements.

Positions that are eligible for hybrid or mobile/remote work mode are at the discretion of the hiring department. Work agreements are reviewed annually at a minimum and are subject to change at any time, and for any reason, throughout the course of employment. Learn more about the work modes.
