Job Summary
Research Administrator
Aligned with U-M's commitment to research, education, and service, the Graham Sustainability Institute drives real-world impact in partnership with university and external stakeholders by enhancing collaborative research, developing sustainability leaders, and informing policy and practice.
We now seek a motivated and enthusiastic Research Administrator Intermediate to work closely and proactively with our program managers and senior staff to provide pre-and post-award administration. The successful candidate will enjoy research, financials, problem-solving, and being part of a team environment. This position is 50-60%. The position reports to the Business Manager.

Responsibilities
- Manage the pre-award process including coordination and preparation of necessary documents, preparing and negotiating budgets, applications and reports
- Reviews sponsor guidelines to interpret requirements for application with our policies
- Manage the post-award process including assisting in the preparation of sponsor reports, reconciliations and corrective actions
- Identify potential compliance-related issues and offer suggestions for handling before escalating larger issues
- Advise the principal investigator on best practice to achieve an effective, quality proposal and managing the award on an on-going basis
- Provide monthly and yearly projections for project grants
- Reviews and approves expenditures for materials, equipment, support staff and travel
- Develop and implement administrative procedures and assist project directors in interpreting regulations
- Develop relationship with internal and external stakeholders through effective communication
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree or the equivalent combination of education and experience
- 3+ years of demonstrated experience with financial and budget management related to grants and contracts
- Advanced proficiency in both pre- and post-award sponsored project lifecycle
- Intermediate proficiency in Microsoft Office and Google collaboration tools
- Advanced level proficiency in Excel and financial management platforms
- Knowledge of federal funding guidelines
