About Region 12 Schools
The Region 12 School District educates approximately 800 students in four schools: Booth Free School (K-5); Burnham School (K-5); Washington Primary School (PK-5); and Shepaug Valley School (6-12), which combines comprehensive educational programming with a state-of-the-art Agriscience Program (9-12). Region 12 schools offer an extensive menu of extracurricular activities that focus on the academic, artistic, and physical development of its students. The entire staff works to establish a school environment that allows students to grow socially, emotionally, and intellectually.
A district thrives when it articulates a clear vision for teaching and learning. The Region 12 community educates, challenges, and inspires all learners to become compassionate, creative individuals who are empowered by their knowledge, character, and perseverance. Region 12 is guided by its Strategic Plan that represents the input of staff, administrators, parents, and the Board of Education. Each stakeholder is invested in the academic success and well-being of the students. Collaborative and continuous improvements ensure students have the academic, artistic, and athletic opportunities to maximize their potential.
Members of the Board of Education (twelve in total) are each elected by their respective towns for four-year terms: three from Bridgewater, three from Roxbury, and six from Washington. Board members’ primary constituency responsibility is to Region 12. As such, Board members make decisions based on what is in the best interest of Region 12 as a whole.
About the Region 12 Communities
Located in southern Litchfield County, Region 12 comprises three geographically adjacent towns: Bridgewater, Roxbury, and Washington. The proximity of the regional towns and the small size of the district enable students, staff, and parents to know each other as members of the school community–a point of pride for the district. Providing strong public school education is a tenet of the community and relies on deep collaboration with members of each town. The region has a combined population of 7,500 residents who enjoy picturesque landscapes and parks that showcase the region’s natural beauty and charm. Bridgewater, Roxbury, and Washington boast economic diversity from agriculture to art galleries, farm to table dining, and celebrated cultural events throughout the year. Long considered a hidden gem in Connecticut, Region 12 has an extensive history of being a uniquely attractive community in which to live and work.
About the Position
The Board seeks a strong educational leader with a demonstrated record of attaining results in student achievement. Demonstrated competency in the following areas are of importance to the Region 12 Board of Education:
Expertise in the areas of teaching and learning
Strong communication, leadership, and decision-making skills
A collaborative and inclusive leadership style
The ability to build trust and capacity in the leadership team
Expertise in school budgeting
Working cooperatively with the Board of Education, the superintendent will:
Project a vision that strengthens the academic experience and outcomes for all students
Engage with the entire Region 12 community
Be engaged and present with the three towns that make up Region 12
Promote a district-wide safe climate and culture that allows students to flourish and grow intellectually, emotionally and socially
The Region 12 Search Committee is in the process of engaging its stakeholders in a comprehensive needs assessment survey that will help prioritize the qualities, characteristics, skills, and experiences most desired in its next superintendent. Connecticut Superintendent certification (093) or eligibility for such is required. The projected salary package for the position is $250,000-$285,000, depending on the qualifications and experiences of the successful candidate.
