WHAT WE CAN ACHIEVE TOGETHER

The New York Volunteer Leadership and Engagement Manager is responsible for helping ensure that The Nature Conservancy in New York's leadership and broader team are thoughtfully engaging our volunteer leaders to harness their experience, insights, and passions; that the volunteer leaders feel engaged and rewarded in their service; and that these engagements are productive and appreciated by everyone involved. The Volunteer Leadership and Engagement Manager will help the New York Executive Director, New York Executive Team, and wider team anticipate how and when to engage in meaningful and productive ways with our volunteer leaders and current and prospective major/principal donors.

The New York Volunteer Leadership and Engagement Manager performs a variety of high-level tasks in support of the overall management of the Board and Leadership Council, including but not limited to: coordinating and planning all volunteer leader quarterly board meetings and year-round volunteer leadership events; supporting and interfacing directly with the approximately 25 trustees of the Conservancy's New York Board and the approximately 40 members of the New York Leadership Council. They support fulfilling the strategic priorities of The Nature Conservancy in New York by developing and implementing an approach and tactics to generate volunteer leaders' input and support. They serve as an essential Conservancy ambassador and have substantial contact with a variety of stakeholders including trustees, leadership council members (former trustees, potential future trustees, and other key supporters), Global Board members, other donors, public and private partners, and vendors, among others.

The Volunteer Leadership and Engagement Manager organizes engaging events designed for the members of the New York Board and Leadership Council, as well as current and prospective major and principal donors (meetings, conservation briefings, impromptu fora on various topics, retreats, trips (including occasional international trips), and other special events. They serve as events manager for board activities and provide support functions such as research, brief development, writing, stewardship of some board members, and other duties as assigned. They work closely with the Chairs of the New York Board and Leadership Council, as well as the Board's Chair of the Committee on Trustees. They support NY Director of Development in the management of the Committee on Trustees to help identify, recruit and on-onboard new board members; and they may serve as the relationship manager for a handful of New York trustees (scientists, experts, and alumni of the LEAF summer internship program).

They play, at times, a key outreach and ambassador role to internal and/or external audiences. They use the Conservancy's donor database to update donor information, produce reports, and track and cultivate trustees and identify potential trustees and donors. They must have advanced knowledge of the systems and resources utilized by The Nature Conservancy in New York. They maintain, track, analyze, and report on key data for the New York Executive Director and Team. They provide guidance in satisfying volunteer leader and team requirements based on extensive knowledge of policies and procedures. They adapt processes and implement recommended practices to improve effectiveness. They may, at times, take on additional duties to enhance the work of the team and volunteer leaders.
