Job Summary

The Lead Community Outreach Facilitator serves as a lead community liaison / program facilitator for Tiwahe Tewichaglapi?/ Family Acceptance Project happening in Rapid City, SD. The Family Acceptance Project seeks to help families support and affirm their 2SLGBTQ+ youth. The person in this position will serve as a lead in both community liaison and program facilitator roles. Duties include facilitating the programming to 2SLGBTQ+ youth and/or their caregivers, as well as training and supervising the Community Outreach Facilitators with the programming to 2SLGBTQ+ youth and/or their caregivers, providing information about the project and connecting it to cultural/spiritual values, giving presentations to community partners, hosting feeds and community events, recruitment and enrollment in research studies, and providing co-leadership on program adaptation and refinement.  This is not an exhaustive list of duties, other duties may be assigned as the program is implemented.

The person in this position will interact with a large number of individuals including staff, students, community members, and current and potential funders/donors. The purpose of these interactions will be to support community and engagement with the project and implement programming.

Responsibilities*

Community Liaison and Engagement 

25% Duties include providing information about the project and connecting it to cultural/spiritual values, giving presentations to community partners, hosting feeds and community events, recruitment and enrollment in research studies, and providing recommendations to the research and program teams.

Program Facilitation 

25% Duties include facilitating the programming to 2SLGBTQ+ youth and/or their caregivers .

Supervision and Training

40% Training facilitators on the programming to 2SLGBTQ+ youth and/or their caregivers, and supervision of 4-6 facilitators.. Duties will also include providing co-leadership on program adaptation and refinement.

Child Care1

10% Duties may include providing childcare on an as needed basis to children (ages 10 and under) who are not participating in the program. Childcare will be provided in the same facility where the program will be occurring (i.e., caregivers will be on site). Classes will occur during time convenient for families (weekends and evenings), so it is essential that the person in this position have regular availability during this time. 

Job Requirements: 

  • Must have previous experience working with ( and/or lived experience) with the 2SLGBTQ+ community and tribal communities.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, communication skills and public speaking abilities, and the ability to teach skills to others.
  • Commitment to increasing support for 2SLGBTQ+ Native American youth in tribal communities.

Required Qualifications*

  • Must have previous experience working with (and/or lived experience) with the 2SLGBTQ+ community and tribal communities.  
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills, communication skills and public speaking abilities, and ability to teach skills to others.  
  • Commitment to increasing support for 2SLGBTQ+ Native American youth in tribal communities.
  • Be able to address emerging project needs and community engagement strategies and provide information to stakeholders about the project.
  • This position may involve traveling to various locations.
  • Driver's License required.

Desired Qualifications*

Experience with supervising others.
