Responsible for identifying payer sources for uninsured and underinsured patients, and for identifying patient financial responsibility for services and collecting co-pays, deductibles and deposits prior to scheduled services. This position serves as liaison between the patient, the physician, the hospital and payers.
Minimum Education
- BA or BS in healthcare, business, sociology or related field or evidence of obtaining preferred (multiple years of experience may be considered as a substitute for degree).
Minimum Work Experience
- 2 years of related experience.
- Demonstrated ability to interpret and apply policy and regulation as they apply to healthcare programs.
Required Licenses/Certifications
- Certified Application Counselor (CAC) or required to obtain within 90 days of hire
Required Skills, Knowledge and Abilities
- Ability to review patients billing information in-person or on the phone verbally and in writing: explain financial assistance program and help with insurance enrollment when applicable.
- Demonstrated moderate knowledge of medical terminology.
- Demonstrated moderate knowledge of basic computer skills.
- Math skills: required to calculate income, balances & deposits.
- Excellent written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills required to deal with patients from diverse socio-economic backgrounds.
- Demonstrated ability to exercise high degree of confidentiality.
Pay range: $17.50 - $25.91
