Pay Range: $21.5228 - $31.2082 Hourly / $44,767.42 - $64,913.06 Annually
Non-Negotiable Starting Pay: $21.5228 Hourly / $44,767.42 Annually
Characteristics of the Job
Under general supervision, performs repetitive routine cleaning tasks and semi-skilled mechanical tasks to assist in the operation and maintenance of water treatment plant facilities. Assignments may be given in detail or may follow established routine. Limited independence is exercised; work is regularly checked by the supervisor for quality, quantity and safety of operation and care of equipment.
Examples of Duties
- Sweep, mop, wax and buff floors; vacuum and clean carpets
- Clean and sanitize restrooms and shower facilities to include the stocking of necessary supplies
- Remove refuse from receptacles and ensure waste material is disposed of in designated areas.
- Pick up litter in grounds, sweep sidewalks and shovel snow.
- Wash walls, windows, glass partitions; paint walls, ceilings, etc.
- Dust and polish woodwork, furniture and other articles, clean light fixtures and change lightbulbs.
- Operate truck for snow removal, salt spreading and material hauling.
- Perform basic building and grounds maintenance including mowing, trimming, painting, washing and snow removal.
- Clean tanks, channels, troughs and screens.
- Assists with mechanical, plumbing or electrical repairs or maintenance.
- Other duties may be assigned.
Training and Experience
High school diploma or GED equivalent; two (2) years of building cleaning experience; experience in performing general manual work; or any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Excellent knowledge of building cleaning practices, supplies and equipment and; knowledge of occupational hazards and safety precautions of the trade.
Skill in the operation of building maintenance equipment, including but not limited to, battery powered sweeper/ wet vacuum, walk behind carpet extractor, high speed electric burnisher, floor maintenance pads, stripping machines and automatic scrubbers; effectively communicating with those contacted throughout the course of the workday; maintaining effective working relationships with other departments, agencies, employees, supervisors and members of the public; and in the safe and proper operation of equipment and hand tools.
Ability to maintain absolute confidentiality of the materials and situations encountered on the job; understand and follow specific oral and written instructions; and establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees, supervisors and the general public; and demonstrate thoroughness and dependability.
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations
Valid Illinois driver’s license or equivalent.

Residency
AFSCME employees shall live within a 20-mile radius from the City’s Emergency Center, located at 1630 8th Avenue in Moline, within 180 days of hire.
