What's the role

As a Control Systems Engineer (CSE), you will provide day to day technical support and assurance for the basic layer process control system (BPCS) and safety instrumented systems (SIS) in the designated plant area. Also, you will support to their production team on process control, performance, and best practices. They are also responsible for championing process control related changes.

Accountabilities:

  • Support plant operations - Provides control systems support for plant operations by performing troubleshooting activities and routine work to maintain and improve process control utilization and reliability

  • Proactively address controls performance - Performs routine work efforts to maintain and improve unit performance using proactive technical monitoring tools

  • Manage control system changes - Designs, reviews, and modifies control schemes, loop tuning, alarm and point configuration, and console operator HMI graphics using approved management of change (MOC) work processes

  • Investigate incidents - Participates in incident investigations where process control could have contributed to the event or where the process control system could effectively contribute to the investigation process

  • Manage & improve SIS performance - Leads investigations related to Safety Instrumented System trips in their area of responsibility

  • Support planned outages - Plans, executes, and tracks control system items for planned outages in their plant area

  • Manage changing priorities - Manages fluctuating priorities dependent on current needs of active projects and MOCs

  • Upkeep key documentation - Maintains proper documentation for the process control systems (Narratives, Cause & Effect Diagrams, Tuning spreadsheet, etc

  • Support process safety - Participates in Process Hazard Analysis (PHA), HAZOP, and Layers of Protection Analysis (LOPA) activities for the designated plant area

  • Manage unit Threats - Identifies, manages, and tracks top controls related threats to plant area availability

What we need from you

  • Must have legal authorization to work in the US on a full-time basis for anyone other than current employer

  • Minimum of 3 years of relevant experience

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering (Chemical, Mechanical, Electrical, or Computer preferred)

  • Petrochemical and/or refining experience, preferred

  • Experience with Emerson DeltaV DCS system, preferred

  • Good verbal and written communication skills

The base salary range for this position is $101,000.00 - $151,000.00 per year.  Individual pay will be based on various factors, such as relevant work experience, education, certifications, skill level, seniority, and internal equity. 

For regular full-time or regular part-time employees of the Company (participating companies as listed in the Summary Plan Description), insurance coverage options include medical, dental, vision coverage, life Insurance, Business Travel Accident Insurance, and Occupational Accidental Death Benefit programs. Employees also participate in a company pension plan and a 401(k) plan. Paid leave includes up to 6 weeks of paid vacation time, up to 11 paid holidays, and parental leave offering 16 weeks of paid leave for birthing parents, and 8 weeks of paid leave for non-birthing parents.

Additionally, employees are eligible for short-term disability leave for up to 26 weeks at 100% or 50% of base pay as well as Long-Term Disability insurance. Shell also offers other compensation such financial reimbursement for adoption, wellness, education, and personal learning expenses, and some roles are eligible for discretionary long-term incentives.  For interns, eligible benefits include medical, dental, and vision coverage, life insurance, Business Travel Accident Insurance, and Occupational Accidental Death Benefit programs; participation in a 401(k) plan; and paid leave for up to 11 paid holidays.  Additional information on Shell's US benefit programs can be found at https://www.shell.us/careers/about-careers-at-shell/rewards-and-benefits.html.
