Job Description

Job Description:

Berklee is the world’s premier institution for the study of music, dance, and theater, serving a global community of over 8,000 students across campuses in Boston, New York City, and Valencia, Spain. We are seeking an expert, data-driven, and collaborative leader to serve as the Associate Dean of Admissions. Under the broad direction of the Dean of Admissions, you will spearhead domestic undergraduate and graduate recruitment and business strategy for campus-based programs at Berklee College of Music, Boston Conservatory at Berklee, and Berklee NYC. At Berklee, your work directly supports the next generation of creative leaders.

The Role & Strategic Impact

The Associate Dean plays a defining role in shaping Berklee’s incoming classes, balancing macro enrollment strategy with high-level operational execution. You will align annual and long-term Audition & Interview (A&I) programming to meet market demand while maximizing a comprehensive recruitment budget.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Strategic Enrollment Management: Co-lead the development of institution-wide enrollment initiatives. Work directly with the Dean to successfully matriculate over 850 domestic college undergraduates, 300 graduate recruits, 225 conservatory undergraduates, and 90+ conservatory graduate students annually.
  • Team Leadership: Supervise, mentor, and motivate a high-performing domestic recruitment team consisting of four direct reports and five indirect reports across the College and Conservatory.
  • Board of Admissions Leadership: Serve as a senior leader on the Board of Admissions. Plan agendas, lead selection meetings, and partner with academic chairs on complex admissions and scholarship deliberations.
  • A&I Operations & Budget Control: Oversee domestic admissions budgets, projecting expenses and auditing staff expenditures. Direct the logistical strategy for in-person, online, and travel-based audition events, acting as the primary liaison to faculty and administrative stakeholders.
  • Portfolio Workflow Management: Oversee the SlideRoom artistic application and portfolio review workflows, continuously updating criteria and lifecycle processes to ensure timely, equitable faculty evaluations.
  • Cross-Institutional Collaboration: Partner with Enrollment Marketing and Operations to ensure message consistency across all digital portals, while leading comprehensive training programs on admissions technology and customer service best practices.

What You'll Bring

  • Education: Undergraduate degree required; Master’s degree preferred.
  • Experience: Minimum of 10 years of progressive experience in higher education admissions management, including at least 5 years in a dedicated leadership or supervisory role.
  • Artistic Domain Knowledge: A background and deep knowledge in the performing arts is required to effectively understand our curriculum and align with academic leadership.
  • Technical & Analytical Mastery: Expert proficiency in CRM systems and data-driven decision-making, with a proven track record of using predictive analytics to optimize travel and recruitment spend.
  • Interpersonal Excellence: Exceptional communication habits, structural project management skills, fiscal accountability, and a highly collaborative, approachable leadership style.
  • Flexibility: Ability to fulfill periodic travel requirements, evening work, and weekend commitments during peak recruitment cycles.

Why Choose Berklee?

  • Mission-Driven Impact: Play a pivotal role in identifying and cultivating the world's most inspired creative entrepreneurs and performing artists.
  • Cultural Access: Enjoy nightly, unrivaled access to world-class music, theater, and dance performances across our campus venues.
  • Comprehensive Benefits: Exceptional health and dental plans, a 403(b) retirement system with matching institutional contributions, and tuition benefits for you and your family.
  • Generous Time Off: Extensive paid time off alongside observed holidays and a paid winter break to rest and recharge.

Hiring Range: $99,450 to $117,000; salary dependent on experience and education.
